Prone to Rash & Eczema

Eczema (also called atopic dermatitis) is a common cause of skin rash and is often described as a skin irritation leading to redness, itching, burning, crusting, dryness and cracking. Eczema is believed to result from abnormalities in the skin’s “barrier” function. Many factors can contribute to the development of eczema, including genetics, allergies, dry skin, hot, dry or cold environments, and stress. Hand sanitizers are very drying and can lead to development of significant skin "cracking" which can get infected. Use of hand sanitizers may worsen or cause hand eczema. Recent research indicates a link between eczema flares and Staphylococcus aureus (Staph) bacteria. Also, children with eczema may carry the molluscum virus causing bumps, itching, and rash. Proper skin cleansing and moisturizing are important for those prone to eczema, molluscum and rash. For more information, please visit the FAQ.
